For the last three years, I have put together a road rally event in March for the Queen City Coopers called the Leprechaun Run. We have had anywhere from a high of 30 to a low of 12 or so MINIs participate in the event over the years. The format has remained the same each year, and it has always been run on the fabulous back roads of Northern Kentucky. The drive is set up as an observation rally where drivers negotiate a set route that includes a sheet with a list of questions navigators attempt to answer as they run along the route. We always end the event at a restaurant, tally up the scores and the car with the most correct answers wins our leprechaun yard gnome (who's name is not to be spoken three times quickly) and gets to retain this "idol of power" for one year until they must return it for the next annual running of the event.

This coming year, Leprechaun Run 4 will be open to all sports cars. The format of the drive will be a rally. Each car will receive a route sheet and will run the route on their own. Feel free to form into groups if so desired, but each individual is still responsible for themselves. There will be an observation/scavenger hunt contest part of the run which will be developed as planning for the event gets underway. So, if there is anyone here who would like to get involved and help plan this event in March 2010, please let me know. I would also love to hear any comments, thoughts, suggestions anyone may have.

FINAL INFO:

cincysportscar.com presents:

Leprechaun Run 4 Road Rally
Benefiting the League for Animal Welfare

Saturday March 20th, 2010 at 1PM

Please consider this your formal invitation to join us on the back roads for the fourth running of our annual Saint Patrick’s Day celebration known as the Leprechaun Run Road Rally. This year, the rally is a charity fundraiser for a fabulous animal shelter in Clermont County known as the League for Animal Welfare. Wondering what this rally is all about? First, get festive if you would like to. Dress yourself & your automobile in whatever Saint Patrick's Day costume you would like (optional). There will be a prize for the best dressed participant & best decorated automobile. Second, take a nice, long back roads drive in Northern Kentucky with your fellow motoring buddies. Third, catch Cabbage Lips O'Grady. Bring a co-pilot and have them take the quiz as you motor along. The one with the most questions correct at the end gets to take home Cab for an entire year.

Rally info: The rally route will be approximately 80 miles long and will take 2-3 hours to complete. After check in, you will be given detailed route instructions and maps that you will use to navigate the course on your own. The drive will be a fun back roads loop heading down to Falmouth, KY and back to our gathering at The Pub @ Crestview Hills. There will be many opportunities to stop and take a break along the route, but most will probably choose to take a break at the McDonald's in Falmouth at the halfway point.

Starting point/check-in: Saturday, March 20th 2010 - meet at 1PM start rally at 1:30PM - starting point is Frederick's Landing in Wilder, KY (a public park with large parking lot). Map to starting point at Frederick’s Landing in Wilder, KY: http://tinyurl.com/y95aw9j The park is located just a couple of miles north of I-275 at AA Hwy (KY 9) exit 77.

Ending point: We have a large group reservation at The Pub @ Crestview Hills for our gathering at the end of the rally. Prizes and awards happen here including the yearly ceremonial awarding of the much sought after Leprechaun known as Cabbage Lips O'Grady, which resides with the winner until the next annual running.

Registration: Registration cost is $25 per car with proceeds supporting The League for Animal Welfare. Your registration fee is considered a tax-deductible donation. Please follow the link below to the League for Animal Welfare's Pledge Connect site, select Leprechaun Road Rally Car Registration and complete the info. If you would simply like to sponsor rather than attend, select Leprechaun Run Road Rally Sponsor and donate any amount you would like. https://secure.pledgeconnect.com/donation.aspx?lfaw You can also mail a $25.00 check made out to the League for Animal Welfare to 4193 Taylor Road, Batavia, OH 45103 noting Leprechaun Road Rally in the memo area.

I think I might be interested, though I'd probably need to hire a navigator.

Hi Greg
Count us in to help plan the run. When you get a date fixed let me know and we'll promote at www.RovingRoadsters.com as well. This is always a fun day! I'd love to help put the list of questions together. I do think that adding a Photo requirement adds some fun. Things like: (1) Get a photo of someone on your team kissing a police officer or (2) get a photo of your car being gassed up by a stranger or (3) get a photo of one of you pointing at a hedge apple.

I am going to tentatively set the date for Leprechaun Run 4 for Saturday March 20th, 2010. This rally has normally started early afternoon and ends late afternoon for an early dinner/party at the end. This year, the format is wide open. We could even do different classes and have a full day version of the rally that starts earlier and a short version for others. All sorts of possibilities when we don't have to worry about convoy/group driving.

Need some volunteers to help plan/organize this event. So far it is myself, Chris & Cheryl. You can choose your own level of involvement. I'll probably be having an informal social gathering in the near future of all those interested in being part of Leprechaun Run 4. We need a logo if anyone wants to play around with that.

Anything that can be driven in a sports-tastic manner... which means anything except maybe an Allroad. Nah, Allroads & Yugos are welcome too  Grin

Steve will laugh at that allroad comment, especially since our allroads "kept up" with some Gt3's, 911s, and boxters in the porsche cruise. He drives his allroad like its a Zonda.

Alright. So now that everyone knows that all are welcome, have others done some road rallies, and what things did you like or not like about the ones you have been on??? I've done a few and I have put together lots of group drives/rides in my time. I know I don't want the Leprechaun Run to be a group/convoy drive anymore. Each car gets the route and goes, if you want to group up, that's fine, but each car is still responsible for themselves. Freedom to drive your own drive, and freedom of the organizers to not have to deal with grouping/leading/sweeping, etc.
